Amid ongoing rumors of marital difficulties between Ben Affleck and Jennifer Lopez, Affleck’s ex-wife and mother of his children, Jennifer Garner, is reportedly encouraging him to work on his marriage. According to a source who spoke with Us Weekly, Garner “fully supports their relationship and wants nothing more than for him to be happy.”
Despite their own marriage not working out, Garner considers Affleck “a complicated guy” but emphasizes that they have always cooperated well regarding their children, Violet, 18, Fin, 15, and Samuel, 12.
Some media outlets have reported that Lopez sought Garner’s help, feeling that Garner is “one of the only people in the world who would understand what she is going through.”
A source told the Daily Mail, “[Garner] has experienced similar challenges with the same man and, despite the different circumstances, they both faced some of the same issues.”
After Garner and Affleck’s split in 2018, the 52-year-old actress began dating businessman John Miller. Though she has moved on romantically, she sees Lopez as a stabilizing presence in Affleck’s life and is committed to helping preserve their marriage.
“Jen does not want Ben to end this marriage because she genuinely cares about JLo,” an insider shared with the Daily Mail. They mentioned that Garner “visited his house to talk to him about this and to try and keep them together.”
“JLo has been reassured multiple times by Jen about how important she is in all their lives,” the source continued. “She is one of the few people who can reach Ben and prevent him from succumbing to his addiction.”
In a 2020 interview with the New York Times, Ben Affleck acknowledged that his drinking had exacerbated his “marital problems” with Jennifer Garner.
“People with compulsive behavior, including myself, experience a constant underlying discomfort that we strive to alleviate,” he explained. “Whether it’s through eating, drinking, sex, gambling, shopping, or other activities, we’re seeking relief. However, these actions often worsen our lives, leading us to indulge even more in an attempt to escape the discomfort. This is when the real suffering begins.”
“It turns into an unbreakable vicious cycle,” he added. “That’s what happened to me.”
Earlier this week, Affleck was notably absent from the premiere of his wife’s new movie, *Atlas*.
