As the summer heat intensifies, there’s nothing quite like a refreshing cold drink. This time of year, kids across the nation take advantage of the rising temperatures by setting up classic lemonade stands on their front lawns.
However, one enterprising young boy had a different idea. He figured out what adults really craved and turned that insight into a profitable venture—until the police arrived and put a stop to his operation.
On Tuesday, a young boy from Brigham City, Utah set up a drink stand that quickly grabbed attention.
This was the sign he had up:
A young entrepreneur set up a stand selling what appeared to be beer. On one hand, it’s a clever idea—who wouldn’t want a cold drink on a hot day? However, the situation was concerning since the seller was clearly underage, and the stand likely didn’t have a liquor license.
Concerned neighbors and passersby quickly alerted the authorities, hoping to put an end to the boy’s questionable venture. Police officers from the Brigham City Police Department arrived on the scene, prepared to address the situation.
But then, they took a closer look at his sign…

That’s right: he was selling root beer.
Take a moment to look at the kid’s expression in the photo, and notice the little smiley face in the corner of the sign. That’s the face of a kid who just executed a brilliant prank.
The police decided to let the boy continue with his activities, and it seems his business is thriving, as long as he’s not being stopped by the authorities.
According to a post on the Brigham Police Department’s Facebook page, “His marketing tactics have led to numerous calls to the BCPD, but they seem to have paid off because business is booming.”
This kid might just have a future in advertising!
