What does it symbolize when a person who passed away appears in your dream

Some people remember their dreams vividly, while others may not recall dreaming at all. But do dreams hold any significance? While many believe that dreams are messages from unseen forces or a glimpse into a deeper reality, some scientists argue that dreams are merely the result of neuronal processes occurring in the brain.

While we are asleep, our brains are anything but.

Dreams can often mirror the events of our day, but they can also tap into our deepest fears. So, what does it signify when we dream of someone who has passed away?

Dreams like these can often be interpreted as part of the grieving process or as a reflection of a transition occurring in our lives. Healthline suggests that the latter is usually the case.

We often have these types of dreams during times of change, like starting a new job, relocating, or meeting someone new.

What matters even more than the dream itself is the way it makes us feel.

Rubin Naiman, who holds a Ph.D. in psychology and has dedicated years to studying sleep patterns and habits, explains that “Dream interpretation involves deciphering the dream. It enlightens us, broadening our psychological awareness and expanding our consciousness.”

“Many modern neuroscientists suggest that during REM sleep, the brain performs maintenance tasks, and as a byproduct, it generates random visual images, making dreams essentially meaningless. However, on the other hand, there are those who argue that dreams hold deeper significance. This perspective is seen in ‘dream cultures,’ like the indigenous peoples of Australia, who regard dreaming as an essential part of our spiritual existence.”

Experts place these dreams into four categories.

  1. Dreaming of a deceased person could be seen as the brain’s way of processing the grief from their loss.
  2. If we didn’t resolve our differences with someone before they passed away, we might experience feelings of guilt, which could be why they appear in our dreams.
  3. Lauri Loewenberg, a dream analyst, suggests that dreaming about someone who has passed away might occur if we recognize certain behaviors of theirs, like substance abuse, in ourselves.
  4. Some experts suggest that dreams featuring deceased loved ones, particularly when they appear well-dressed or happy, could be interpreted as a form of visitation. If the dream leaves us with positive feelings, it might be understood as the deceased reaching out with a friendly greeting.

Regardless of our feelings about dreams, they hold a profound significance. Dreams frequently provide us with insights into our inner selves and reveal our connections with those who have passed away.
