An 11-year-old boy is being mourned by his family after tragically passing away due to a dangerous social media trend. Now, his family is urging others to talk to their children to prevent similar incidents.
Tommie-Lee Billington, an 11-year-old from Lancaster, England, lost his life after participating in a concerning trend on TikTok.
This tragic event follows the deaths of two teenage girls who also succumbed to the same “challenge” on the app, according to The Sun.
It all began when 11-year-old Tommie was at a friend’s house for a sleepover on Saturday. The boys attempted a dangerous challenge they had seen on the TikTok app, known as “huffing.”
This practice involves inhaling harmful gases or solvents, such as dry shampoo, spray deodorant, or glue, to achieve a high.
After Tommie and his friend decided to try the trend, Tommie’s heart stopped immediately. According to medical staff, he died instantly. Now, his family is grieving the tragic loss of the 11-year-old.
Sherry, his mother, has implored other parents to communicate with their children and discourage them from using TikTok. She expressed her heartfelt plea on Facebook, stating, “This cost my son his life from trying something other kids are doing. Please talk to your children about the consequences of this. It is beyond me why anyone would even try this! It’s so dangerous!”
In a poignant post, she wrote, “I have never felt pain like this. My whirlwind. I just love you so much, mate. My baby boy. You will forever be in my heart. I will make sure to the best of my ability that your name and your beautiful face will become the reason that other children’s lives will be saved and other families don’t have to suffer this deep, deep hurt.”
Our hearts go out to Tommie’s family during this difficult time. Let’s honor his memory by spreading this crucial message to prevent other children from engaging in this dangerous trend.
